Former Residence of Liu Yalou

The former residence of Liu Yalou is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The former residence of Liu Yalou is located in Xiangyang Village, Xiangdian Township, Wuping County, dating from the Qing Dynasty to the Republican era.

Description: It consists of the Upper Moon-Shaped Residence and the Lower Moon-Shaped Residence. The Upper Moon-Shaped Residence is the birthplace of General Liu Yalou. Built during the Qing Dynasty, it faces south with a north orientation, covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. It is a courtyard-style building with an earth-and-wood structure, featuring a flush gable roof, two courtyards, and three bays, with double wing rooms on both sides, a surrounding wall and courtyard gate at the front, and a half-moon pond in front of the gate. The Lower Moon-Shaped Residence is where General Liu Yalou grew up. Built during the Qing Dynasty, it faces west with an east orientation, covering an area of about 1,800 square meters. It is a courtyard-style building with an earth-and-wood structure, featuring a flush gable roof, two courtyards, and three bays, with double wing rooms on the north side and triple wing rooms on the south side, and a half-moon pond in front of the gate. Liu Yalou (1910–1965), originally named Liu Zhendong, was a senior general of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, a key founder of the People’s Air Force, and a member of the Eighth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Protected area: Upper Moon-Shaped Residence: East to 20 meters outside the rear eaves wall of the eastern wing room, South to the southern bank of the half-moon pond, West to 20 meters outside the rear eaves wall of the western wing room, North to 20 meters outside the rear eaves wall of the main residence. Lower Moon-Shaped Residence: East to 10 meters outside the rear eaves wall of the main residence, South to 10 meters outside the rear eaves wall of the triple southern wing room, West to the eastern bank of the half-moon pond, North to 10 meters outside the rear eaves wall of the northern wing room.

In 2018, the former residence of Liu Yalou was announced as a ninth-batch provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Xiangyang Village: Xiangyang Village is the most remote mountain village in the northern part of Wuping County and the hometown of Liu Yalou, China’s first commander of the Air Force. The average elevation of the village is 356 meters, with an average annual temperature of 19°C, annual precipitation of 1,674 millimeters, and a frost-free period of 280 days. The village is 60 kilometers from the county seat, 2 kilometers from the township government, and crossed by Provincial Highway 205. It is divided into four natural villages: Xiandong, Yangquan, Shizilangxia, and Longguizhai. The arable land area is 1,868 mu, and the forested area is 22,463 mu.
