Introduction:

Yunxiao is the birthplace of Qiu Jin, a famous democratic revolutionary in modern China. Her former residence is situated in Xiangtang Village, Yunling Town, Yunxiao County, and was built in the 8th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1803). In the 4th year of the Guangxu reign (1878), Qiu Jiahe (Qiu Jin’s grandfather) was appointed as the Tongzhi (magistrate) of Yunxiao Subprefecture. On the 11th day of the 10th lunar month of the following year, Qiu Jin was born here. From May to August of the 15th year of the Guangxu reign (1889), Qiu Jiahe served again as the Tongzhi of Yunxiao Subprefecture, and Qiu Jin spent her childhood here.

The residence was originally the Ziyang Academy and the Temple of Seven Sages during the Qing Dynasty, also serving as the official residence or temporary lodging for successive magistrates of Yunxiao. In August of the 4th year of the Guangxu reign (1878), Qiu Jiahe arrived to take office as the Tongzhi of Yunxiao Subprefecture and moved into this residence with his family. The following year, his granddaughter Qiu Jin was born here. Qiu Jin (1879–1907) was a celebrated martyr of the Xinhai Revolution and a pioneer in China’s democratic revolution and women’s liberation movement. In 1907, she was arrested for organizing the Anhui-Zhejiang Uprising and was executed at Xuan Tingkou in Shaoxing.

Protected area: 10 meters east from the drip line of the eastern gable wall of the Temple of Seven Sages, 10 meters west from the drip line of the western gable wall of the Ziyang Academy, 10 meters north from the drip line of the rear gable wall of the Temple of Seven Sages, and 10 meters south from the front eaves of the Temple of Seven Sages.

Qiu Jin (1875–1907), female, originally named Guijin, courtesy name Yuzhen, childhood name Yugua, later changed her name to Jin, courtesy name Xuanqing, also known as Jingxiong (Competing Heroine) and Lady of Jianhu (Sword Lake), with the alias Hanxia Nü’er (Han Heroine’s Daughter), and also signed as Qiūqiān. Her ancestral home was in Liji, Shanyin, Shaoxing (Fuquan), but she was born in Minhou County, Fujian.

The Qiu family was a prominent lineage in Shanyin, with several generations of officials. From a young age, Qiu Jin enjoyed poetry and literature, admired swordswomen, and had a bold and unrestrained personality. As she grew older, she studied martial arts, horseback riding, and fencing under her fourth cousin, developing a strong-willed character. Xiangtang Village: Xiangtang Village is located in the center of Yunxiao County. The village has 158 households and a total population of 5,880 people. It includes 2,085 mu of agricultural land such as mountain fields, with a total economic income of 58.9 million yuan. The per capita net income of farmers is 7,956 yuan. The village has actively contributed to the construction of a new socialist countryside, investing 10 million yuan in a new project—the Yunling Town Rural Passenger Transport Station—and relocating and rebuilding the entire Xiaoziran Village Dutou area to construct a new community.
