Yan Yi Palace

Yan Yi Palace is a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province.

Yan Yi Palace is located on Qu Ping Road, Yunling Town, Yunxiao County, and dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Introduction: Originally the residence of Chen Yuanguang, the Sage King Who Opened Zhangzhou, it was later converted into a memorial for four generations of his lineage. Also known as the Ancestral Temple of the Zhangzhou Pioneer, it is commonly referred to as the Royal Mansion. It was first built during the Chuigong era (685–688) of the Tang Dynasty, burned down in the late Song Dynasty, rebuilt in the early Ming Dynasty, and underwent several renovations. The surviving main hall and rear hall face southwest to northeast, covering a construction area of 915 square meters. The main hall has five bays in width and three in depth, featuring raised-beam and through-tenon style timber frameworks with exquisitely carved wooden components. The roof ridge of the main hall retains architectural features from the Ming Dynasty.

In 2013, Yan Yi Palace was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: The southern, northern, and western walls of the palace are extended 15 meters outward; the eastern side extends 25 meters outward from the screen wall.

Yunling Town: Yunling Town is located in the central part of Yunxiao County, Fujian Province, along both banks of the Zhang River. It is the seat of the Yunxiao County People’s Government. National Highway 324, as well as the Yunping, Yunpu, and Yundong highways, pass through the town. Towering on both the eastern and western sides are Dachen Mountain and Jiangjun Mountain. To the southeast of the county town, at the mouth of the Zhang River, Yuniu Peak faces Xianren Pavilion, earning the reputation of “Generals facing Ministers, Yuniu Peak facing the Immortal Pavilion.” Memorial sites include the Xianbao Mountain Martyrs’ Cemetery, while scenic and historic spots include the Weihui Temple, Yunshan Academy, and the Qijiansheng Ancestral Hall, the birthplace of the revolutionary martyr Qiu Jin.
