Xilin Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall

The Xilin Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Xilin Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall is located in Xilin Village, Huotian Town, Yunxiao County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Introduction: Originally built in the fourth year of the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty (1509), it was reconstructed in the third year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1864) and renovated again in 1945. Facing east with its back to the west, it is a single-courtyard structure with a gate tower, featuring an open front courtyard enclosed by walls and a screen wall. The main hall is five bays wide and three bays deep, with a post-and-lintel and through-tenon style timber frame and a flush gable roof. The ancestral hall serves as a shared ancestral temple for both the Zhang and Zhang-Liao clans from Xilin in Taiwan.

In 2013, the Xilin Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: A 20-meter buffer zone extends outward from all sides of the ancestral hall.

Xilin Village: Xilin Village is located in the southwestern part of Huotian Town, Yunxiao County, approximately 14 kilometers from the town government and 5 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 1.77 square kilometers, it consists of four villager groups, with 516 households and a population of 2,298. The main crops grown include vegetables, longan, and lychee, with a per capita income of 7,300 yuan. Xilin Village was the site of the Tang Dynasty Chen Yuanguang’s Zhangzhou prefectural office. Existing historical sites include the ruins of the old Zhangzhou Prefecture, the General's Platform, Wutong Temple, Ciji Palace, Shanglin Sheng Palace, the Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall, and a memorial archway dedicated to a Ming Dynasty Ministry of Revenue official.
