Tongshan City Wall

The Tongshan City Wall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Tongshan City Wall is located in Gongyuan Community, Tongling Town, Dongshan County, and dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Introduction: Constructed in the 20th year of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty (1387), the wall is built with granite blocks, standing 2 to 5.5 meters high and 2 to 4 meters wide. It stretches from Ximen Dou in the north to Outpost No. 4 in the south, winding along the mountainous terrain with a total length of approximately 855 meters. Inside the wall, there was once a horse-running path, while outside, crenellated parapets were installed. The structure includes three gates: the East Gate, the West Gate, and the North Gate. The East Gate (Chenxi Gate) features a fully preserved barbican design, measuring 12.8 meters in width and 11.2 meters in depth. Historically, military leaders such as Qi Jiguang, Shen Yourong, Zheng Chenggong, Shi Lang, and Chen Huacheng stationed their troops here.

Protected area: An additional 20 meters extending outward from the base of the city wall on all sides.

In 2018, the Tongshan City Wall was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
