China Airlines has once again innovated its in-flight catering by introducing “coffee in-flight meals” that incorporate locally sourced Dongshan coffee from Tainan for the first time. Starting April 1, these meals will be served in economy class on routes between Taipei and various cities in Japan such as Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Miyazaki, Sapporo, Nagoya, Shizuoka, and Takamatsu, as well as Seoul and Gimpo in South Korea, allowing passengers to enjoy fresh and creative cuisine at 30,000 feet. On the same day, businesses along the Dongshan Coffee Highway launched coffee-based dishes in sync with China Airlines. Travelers not flying to Northeast Asia need not worry — a visit to the Dongshan Coffee Highway offers the chance to savor the same delicious flavors, along with the area’s beautiful scenery and warm hospitality.

The “Coffee In-Flight Meals” developed by China Pacific Catering Services this time include six signature dishes and desserts: coffee chicken, coffee ribs, coffee pork tenderloin, Caesar salad, coffee chicken soup, and coffee rice pudding. Each month, nearly 200 kilograms of high-quality locally sourced coffee beans are provided by the Dongshan Coffee Association. The coffee is extracted using a filtration method to obtain the pure coffee essence. Leveraging the natural meat-tenderizing properties of tannic acid found in coffee, the beans are used to marinate and soften the chicken fibers. This blends the rich, mellow aroma of the coffee beans with the chicken, resulting in tender and juicy meat that remains moist after cooking. A subtle coffee fragrance lingers with each bite, leaving a long-lasting aftertaste.

Director Liao Yuanlong said, “This collaboration not only refines mountain-style gourmet cuisine but also aims to guide Dongshan coffee onto the international stage. Most importantly, it brings travelers to the Coffee Highway to see how local smallholder farmers uphold their coffee culture with such dedication. For those unable to try these unique and refined Dongshan coffee dishes on China Airlines, a short trip to the Dongshan Coffee Highway within the Siraya National Scenic Area in Tainan City offers a flavorful and cultural micro-journey.”
