Category: Tourist Attractions 👁 100 views
Dongshan Temple is located in the mountains at the southern foot of Dongshan (also known as Kangshan) in the urban area. It borders Hengshan Mountain to the east and Denggao Mountain to the west. Originally built during the Taiping Xingguo era of the Northern Song Dynasty, it once received an imperial plaque. As the temple mainly enshrines Guanyin Bodhisattva and is situated near a spring, it was once renamed Guanyin Spring. Throughout history, it has experienced several cycles of prosperity and decline. Starting in 1999, religious figures in the city, with the support and guidance of a group of bhikkhunis from Hong Kong, raised donations totaling several hundred thousand yuan for its renovation. The main structures include the Hall of the Three Saints and the Monks’ and Nuns’ Pavilion. It has been restored under the name “Dongshan Temple,” and now houses statues of Shakyamuni Buddha and other great bodhisattvas of the Western Trinity. With the morning bells and evening drums, incense lingering in the air, and a growing number of devotees, the temple has become a popular destination for religious tourism.
