Big Leaf Oolong (tea)
Big Leaf Oolong, also known as Da Ye Wu, originates from Shanping in Changkeng, Anxi. Legend has it that in the ninth year of the Yongzheng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1731), Su Long from Changkeng, Anxi, planted it in Jianning Prefecture (now Nanping City). During the Republican era, in honor of Su Long, the discoverer of this variety, it was also called Da Ye Su Long. This tea has many strains, including Ruan Ji Wu, Xiao Ye Oolong, and Jian Ye Oolong. Currently, in Anxi, it can be further divided into strains such as Lantian Oolong, Honggu Oolong, Hongxin Oolong, Aijiao Oolong, Shu Oolong, and Zao Oolong. The main producing areas in Anxi are towns such as Changkeng and Xiping, covering an area of about 10,000 mu. It has also been widely introduced to tea-growing regions both within and outside the province. In 1984, Big Leaf Oolong was recognized as a national high-quality tea variety. (Anxi County)
