Maoxie
Maoxie, originally produced in Daqiuhua, Fumei, Anxi, was also called "Mao Wai" during the Republican era. According to the *Tea Variety Records* by the Tea Research Institute of the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences: “Zhang Jiaxie from Pingshi Village (aged 71 in 1957) recalled: ‘In the 33rd year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1907), I went out to buy cloth and passed by the home of Gao Xiang at Daqiulun, Fumei Village. He said there was a type of tea that grew extremely quickly and could be harvested just two years after planting. I then brought back more than 100 tea plants on a whim and planted them in my own tea garden.’ Due to its high yield and good quality, Maoxie gradually spread around Pingshi.” (Anxi County)
