Coffee and Cuisine Galore – Tainan Dongshan Coffee Festival Kicks Off on the 21st

The 2015 Tainan Dongshan Coffee Festival begins on the 21st and runs for one month. This year’s theme, “Coffee and Cuisine Galore,” sees the Tainan City Government Agriculture Bureau and Dongshan District Farmers’ Association joining forces to integrate local cuisine from downtown Dongshan and along the Route 175 Dongshan Coffee Highway, as well as regional agricultural specialties. Together, they’ve created the “Dongshan Coffee & Food Map,” allowing the public to easily access information about Dongshan’s food and events via digital devices.

Yu Shu-chin, Secretary-General of the Dongshan District Farmers’ Association, said that this year’s event combines popular local Dongshan delicacies with exclusive dishes from eateries along the Route 175 Coffee Highway. Visitors can enjoy not only coffee and scenic views but also local treats such as Dongshan duck heads, handmade tapioca balls, handmade pork balls, and pork rib soup. Alternatively, they can explore the Route 175 Coffee Highway to discover original local dishes crafted by coffee vendors.

The “Dongshan Coffee Commemorative Cup,” beloved by coffee aficionados for over a decade, features the zodiac sheep design for the first time this year, with sheep-themed artistic lettering on the cup. In addition, the Agriculture Bureau has invited well-known domestic culinary experts Wang Meixia, Liu Kexiang, Wang Hao-yi, and Zhu Huifang to host leisure farm lectures on agriculture and literary cuisine. These events offer visitors more than just coffee, food, and scenery — they provide a rich cultural and spiritual experience in Dongshan.
