Tainan Dongshan Coffee Featured in EVA Air’s New Inflight Meals – Available on Japan & Korea Routes

EVA Air has once again innovated its inflight meals by launching “Coffee Inflight Meals” that incorporate locally sourced Dongshan coffee from Tainan. Starting April 1, these special meals will be served in economy class on routes between Taipei and destinations such as Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Miyazaki, Sapporo, Nagoya, Shizuoka, Takamatsu in Japan, as well as Seoul and Gimpo in South Korea. Passengers flying with EVA Air can enjoy these fresh and creative dishes at 30,000 feet. On the same day, businesses along the Dongshan Coffee Highway are also launching coffee-themed dishes in sync with EVA Air. Travelers not flying to Northeast Asia need not worry—visiting the Dongshan Coffee Highway allows you to savor the same delicious flavors, while also enjoying the area’s stunning scenery and warm hospitality.

The “Coffee Inflight Meals” developed by EVA Catering feature six signature dishes and desserts: Coffee Chicken, Coffee Ribs, Coffee Pork Tenderloin, Caesar Salad, Coffee Chicken Soup, and Coffee Rice Pudding. Each month, nearly 200 kilograms of premium locally grown coffee beans are supplied by the Dongshan Coffee Association. The beans are brewed using a filtration method to extract pure coffee essence. Leveraging the natural tenderizing properties of tannic acid found in coffee, the coffee is used to marinate and soften chicken fibers. The rich, mellow aroma of the coffee beans is infused into the chicken, resulting in tender and juicy meat without dryness. After cooking, the chicken retains its soft texture and releases a subtle coffee fragrance with a long-lasting aftertaste.

Director Liao Yuanlong said: “This collaboration not only refines mountain-flavored cuisine but also aims to elevate Dongshan coffee onto the international stage. Most importantly, it encourages travelers to visit the Coffee Highway and meet the local smallholder farmers who are dedicated to preserving their unique coffee culture. For those unable to enjoy the distinctive and refined Dongshan coffee dishes on EVA Air, a short trip to the Dongshan Coffee Highway within the Siraya National Scenic Area in Tainan City offers a delightful micro-journey of flavor and culture.”
