Rock on at the Shanghai Festival Grand Stage – Registration Now Open for the Ocean Indie Music Awards

As the exciting summer approaches, the thrilling world of rock music festivals will soon be in full swing. Taiwan’s largest rock music event, the “New Taipei City Gongliao International Ocean Music Festival,” will take place over five consecutive days in mid-July 2013 at the Fulong Beach in Gongliao. Entering its 14th year, the festival has always been a major highlight for both domestic and international independent bands. The much-anticipated “Ocean Indie Music Awards,” which draws significant attention from indie musicians, is now open for registration, with submissions accepted until May 13.

This year’s Ocean Indie Music Awards features top prizes including the grand prize of NT$200,000 for the “Ocean Indie Music Awards,” NT$50,000 for the “Jury’s Grand Prize,” and three other awards such as “Ocean Star.” Over the years, bands that have honed their craft on the ocean stage—like Chen Qizhen, Clazziquai, Tizzy Bac, Wanfang, Sodagreen, Totem, Cheer Chen, Pou Hou, Mushroom, Matzka, and Boxing—have each carved out their own unique space in the Chinese music scene with diverse styles. Last year’s Ocean Indie Music Awards winner, Random, is set to perform at the Beijing Midi Festival in late April this year, bringing the passion and rock energy of the Ocean Music Festival across the strait.

 

During the annual Ocean Music Festival, the Heatwave Mini Stage also offers independent bands a platform to showcase their talents, making it a great opportunity for musical exchange and inspiration. Applications for this segment are now being accepted and will close on May 20. Both the Ocean Indie Music Awards (a competitive event) and the Heatwave Mini Stage performances (a non-competitive showcase) are open to all passionate independent musicians.
