The former residence of Huang Daozhou in Tongling is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The former residence of Huang Daozhou in Tongling is located at No. 224, Caiyuandi, Park Community, Tongling Town, Dongshan County, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Introduction: Constructed in the early Ming Dynasty, it faces southwest and sits northeast, with a construction area of 310 square meters. It is a courtyard-style structure. The main house features five bays in width and two in depth, with a flush-gable roof. Above the lintel hangs a plaque inscribed with “Su Peak Adorned with Grace,” personally calligraphed by Huang Daozhou himself. The central bay serves as the main hall, with the rear eave partitioned into an altar niche where a portrait of Huang Daozhou, painted during the late Qing and Republican periods, is hung. On the east and west sides of the main house are side chambers, each three bays wide. The southern side is enclosed by gables, forming an inner courtyard in the center with a well. In February 1585, the 13th year of the Wanli reign in the Ming Dynasty, Huang Daozhou was born here and lived here until 1609, the 37th year of the Wanli reign.

Huang Daozhou (1585–1646), courtesy name Youyuan, art name Shizhai, was a native of Tongling, Dongshan. He was a renowned Neo-Confucian scholar, calligrapher, educator, astronomer, and patriot of the late Ming Dynasty.

Protective boundary: The area extends 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2018, the former residence of Huang Daozhou in Tongling was designated as a ninth batch provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
