Tongling Tianhou Temple

Tongling Tianhou Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Tongling Tianhou Temple is located on Datie Street, Matou Community, Tongling Town, Dongshan County, dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Introduction: Originally built in the 24th year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1391), it was renovated in the 17th year of the Jiaqing era (1816) and the 6th year of the Xianfeng era (1856) of the Qing Dynasty. The temple faces northeast and is situated southwest, featuring a two-courtyard layout with a land area of 1,700 square meters and a building area of 358.5 square meters. The front hall has five bays in width and two in depth, topped with a flush gable roof; the main hall has three bays in width and three in depth, topped with a hip-and-gable roof. The central and side bays of both the front and main halls feature open interiors. A curved stone slab bridge runs through the courtyard, flanked by covered walkways on both sides. The walls of the front hall are built with closely fitted strip stones, inlaid with stone carvings of flowers, birds, and figures, while the front porch beams also feature stone bracket sets. The interior of the main hall is fitted with intricately carved dragon and phoenix stone pillars. The wooden beams and brackets are painted and gilded, with fine carvings. Inside the temple, there is also a stone stele from the 57th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1792), titled "Official Notice from Shipowners of Min-Tong Vessels."

Protected area: Extending 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2018, Tongling Tianhou Temple was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.
