Tomb of Gu Wenchang

The Tomb of Gu Wenchang is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Tomb of Gu Wenchang is located in the Gu Wenchang Memorial Park within the Chishan Forest Farm in Chencheng Town, Dongshan County. It was built in 1987.

Brief introduction: In January 1981, Comrade Gu Wenchang passed away in Zhangzhou due to illness. In 1987, the people of Dongshan buried his ashes in the Chishan Forest Farm, which he had personally established. In 1999, various sectors in Dongshan donated 1.2 million yuan to build the Gu Wenchang Mausoleum on this site. In 2003, with central government approval, the Gu Wenchang Memorial Hall was established, and it opened to the public in 2004. Gu Wenchang (1915–1981), originally named Cheng Shuan, was from Guojiazhuang, Shibanyan Township, Lin County, Henan Province. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1944. During his 14 years of work in Dongshan, he led the people of the county in combating wind disasters and droughts, planting trees, developing water conservancy, improving transportation, and boosting production, transforming a barren island ravaged by sandstorms into a vibrant oasis on the East China Sea.

In 2018, the Tomb of Gu Wenchang was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People's Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: With the tombstone as the center point, the area extends 30 meters northwest to the front of the tomb and 20 meters outward in all other directions.

Gu Wenchang (1915.10 – 1981.1), originally named Cheng Shuan, was from Guojiazhuang, Shibanyan Township, Lin County, Henan Province. His family had been farmers for generations and lived in poverty. As a child, he begged during famines, and later worked as a farmhand and learned stonemasonry. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in March 1943 and served as district head of the 7th, 10th, and 2nd districts of Linbei County, as well as party secretary of the Rencun District Committee. In January 1949, he moved southward with the army. On May 12, 1950, Dongshan was liberated, and Gu Wenchang was appointed secretary of the First District Working Committee of the CPC Dongshan County Committee. Chencheng Town: Rich in resources and talent, Chencheng Town is located in the southeastern corner of Dongshan County, surrounded by sea on three sides. It covers an area of 56 square kilometers, accounting for one-third of the county’s total area; its coastline stretches 53 kilometers, making up 30% of the county’s total coastline, with a sea area of 26,300 square kilometers. The town has 31 natural villages and 13 administrative villages, with a population of 33,000. It has 17,500 mu of arable land and 18,500 mu of forestland, 70% of which is sandy soil.
