Located on the western bank of Xiaoshanziwo in Shigong Town, Woyang County, there is a large square protruding rock that tilts slightly from east to west. On it, there is a clear impression resembling the body of a reclining giant—his head, neck, torso, and limbs are all distinctly visible. Beside it are hoof prints left by a horse kicking wildly in agitation. The whole scene is strikingly lifelike and meticulously detailed. Legend has it that these marks were formed when the Taoist master Chen Tuan lay resting here. Chen Tuan, a figure from the Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty, had no ambition for official rank and once practiced Taoism on Mount Hua, where he was known as the “Hermit of Mount Hua.” He authored works such as the Tao Te Ching’s “Finger Pointing to the Origin.” Emperor Taizu of the Song Dynasty conferred upon him the title “Master Xiyi.” It is said that during his later years, while traveling across China’s landscapes, Chen Tuan once rested at this very spot.
