Yimen Ancient Town, Bozhou

Introduction Located on the north bank of the Guohe River, 22.5 kilometers west of Bozhou County. According to the "Yingzhou Annals": "In the Tang Dynasty, Yimen was Zhenyuan County." In the 10th year of the Tianbao era (751), An Lushan massacred the people of Zhenyuan County, leaving only one ceremonial gate of the county government office, hence Zhenyuan was renamed "Yimen" (Ceremonial Gate). When Bozhou County was established, the character "Yi" (Ceremonial) was changed to "Yi" (Righteous). In ancient times, the town was filled with temples (72 large and small temples) and numerous scenic spots, hence it was called "Temple Market." To this day, over ten sites remain, including the Thousand Buddha Pavilion, Xuan Emperor Temple, and Mosque. About one li west of the town lies Nan Yao Village in the southern suburbs, the hometown of Han Boyu, a filial son from the Western Han Dynasty, where the "Qizhang Shrine" was built behind the village. Due to Yimen's extensive cultivation of dried laver, it has been designated by the state as the "Hometown of Chinese Dried Laver." The town is a settlement area for the Hui ethnic group.
