Introduction Situated on the north bank of the Wuhe River, 12 kilometers east of Bozhou County. The Wuhe Gaoju Bridge spans the river from north to south, connecting with Provincial Highway S307 just 3 kilometers to the south, offering convenient water and land transportation. It is one of the renowned ancient towns in Bozhou City. According to the *Bozhou County Annals*, during the late Eastern Han Dynasty, Cao Cao stationed hundreds of thousands of troops along the Wuhe River in this area, where he also built blast furnaces to forge weapons in preparation for his campaign against the Kingdom of Wu and the unification of Central China. The town of Gaoju thus got its name. To reward his troops, Cao Cao summoned master brewers from across the land, who used the local sweet springs to brew fine wine. As a result, the wine industry in Gaoju flourished. At that time, there was a saying: “Even the Three Heroes of the Han would dismount at the aroma, while the fragrance of Gaoju wine drifts ten miles.” In the past, Gaoju was home to dozens of distilleries (workshops), among which the more famous ones included Huihai, Guanghe, and Yongquan Public. Their products were sold to cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and as far as the northeast. The renowned Anhui Shuanglun Group—Gaoju Distillery—is located in Gaoju Town.
