Gaolu Town

Located on the north bank of the Guo River, 12 kilometers east of Woyang County. The Guo River Gaolu Bridge spans the river from north to south, connecting with Provincial Highway S307 just three kilometers to the south. With convenient water and land transportation, it is one of the civilized ancient towns in Bozhou City. According to the Woyang County Annals, during the late Eastern Han Dynasty, Cao Cao stationed hundreds of thousands of troops along the Guo River here and built blast furnaces to forge weapons in preparation for attacking the Kingdom of Wu and pacifying the Central Plains. Thus, the town got its name, Gaolu (which means “blast furnace”). To reward his troops, Cao Cao also summoned master brewers from across the land to use the region’s sweet spring water to brew fine liquor. As a result, the liquor industry in Gaolu flourished. At the time, there was a saying: “Even the legendary Han Three Heroes would dismount their horses drawn by the aroma, while the fragrance of Gaolu wine wafts ten miles.” In the past, Gaolu had dozens of distilleries (workshops), among which the more famous ones included Huihai, Guanghe, and Yongquan Gong. Their products were sold as far as Beijing, Shanghai, and the northeast. The renowned Anhui Shuanglun Group—Gaolu Distillery—is located in Gaolu Town.

Gaolu Town: Situated on the north bank of the Guo River, 15 kilometers east of Woyang County, Gaolu Town is one of the well-known civilized ancient towns in Bozhou City. It has a population of 51,000, arable land area of 72,000 mu, and administers 1 neighborhood committee, 10 village committees, 117 natural villages, 179 villager groups, and 51 Party organizations with 1,441 Party members. The ceaselessly flowing waters of the Guo River nurture the industrious people of Gaolu. With the reputation of “Even the legendary Han Three Heroes would dismount their horses drawn by the aroma, while the fragrance of Gaolu wine wafts ten miles,” the national-level large enterprise group — Anhui Shuanglun Group — is located just east of the town government.
