Mengcheng Beifei River National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Anhui Mengcheng Beifei River National Wetland Park (Pilot) is located in Mengcheng County, Anhui Province, covering a total area of 1,367.14 hectares. The proposed Beifei River National Wetland Park includes the 34-kilometer stretch of the Beifei River within Mengcheng, the Xutuan coal mine subsidence area, as well as the Gongyigou, Shuangcungou, and Xuefeng Wetland Park that connect the two, with a total area of approximately 1,367 hectares, of which about 895 hectares are wetlands, resulting in a wetland coverage rate of 65.5%. The park aims to protect basin wetland resources, conserve wetland ecology in plain subsidence areas, demonstrate ecological agriculture, and promote the ecological philosophy of Zhuangzi and red culture. It will be divided into five zones: ecological conservation area, restoration and reconstruction area, science education and publicity area, rational utilization area, and management and service area.

The construction of the Beifei River National Wetland Park mainly includes the Beifei River within the county, the Xutuan coal mine subsidence area, and the connecting corridors of Gongyigou and Shuangcungou. The total area is approximately 1,367 hectares, of which about 895 hectares are wetlands, resulting in a wetland coverage rate of 65.5%.

The proposed Mengcheng Beifei River National Wetland Park includes the 34-kilometer stretch of the Beifei River within Mengcheng, the Xutuan coal mine subsidence area, as well as the Gongyigou, Shuangcungou, and Xuefeng Wetland Park that connect the two. The first phase of the project covers Banqiaoji Wetland, Xutuan coal mine subsidence area, and Licang Sanwei Wetland, with a total area of 43,500 mu.

Anhui Mengcheng Beifei River National Wetland Park includes the 34-kilometer stretch of the Beifei River within Mengcheng, the Xutuan coal mine subsidence area, as well as the Gongyigou, Shuangcungou, and Xuefeng Wetland Park that connect the two. The first phase of the project covers Banqiaoji Wetland, Xutuan coal mine subsidence area, and Licang Sanwei Wetland, with a total area of 43,500 mu. Since 2015, Mengcheng County has actively carried out the construction and application work for the national wetland park, and is currently proceeding with construction according to the plan.

It is understood that the planned total area of the proposed Anhui Mengcheng Beifei River National Wetland Park is 1,367.14 hectares, of which 895.45 hectares are wetlands, accounting for a wetland rate of 65.50%. This includes 313.75 hectares of river wetlands, 391.41 hectares of lake wetlands, 109.76 hectares of marsh wetlands, and 80.53 hectares of artificial wetlands. The favorable ecological environment has made the Beifei River wetland a natural hub for the distribution of flora and fauna. Surveys have found 30 families and 51 species of wetland plants, as well as 43 families and 94 species of wild vertebrates.

The wetland park aims to protect basin wetland resources, conserve wetland ecology in plain subsidence areas, demonstrate ecological agriculture, and promote the ecological philosophy of Zhuangzi and red culture. The park is positioned as “Successional Conservation of Plain Subsidence Wetlands, and Ecological and Cultural Heritage of Zhuangzi’s Hometown.” Following the principles of ecosystem integrity and holistic water system protection, the park is divided into five zones: ecological conservation area, restoration and reconstruction area, science education and publicity area, rational utilization area, and management and service area.

It is understood that Mengcheng will strive to become an ecological, low-carbon, and culturally unique national wetland park that integrates China’s first comprehensive research base for wetlands on the Huang-Huai Plain, a national all-region eco-cultural tourism base, the country’s first wetland aquatic forest cultivation demonstration zone, and the first wetland Eucommia ulmoides planting industry demonstration zone. Once completed, it will meet the tourism needs of 20 million people in the surrounding areas and integrate resources such as forest tourism, rural tourism, and educational tourism.
