White Horse Cave Heaven

White Horse Cave Heaven is located on White Horse Mountain in the southwest of Wuhu County, and is now under the jurisdiction of Huolonggang Town, Yijiang District, Wuhu City. As the name suggests, White Horse Cave Heaven offers views of the blue sky, white clouds, and the sun and moon through a cave on White Horse Mountain, making it one of Wuhu’s ancient Eight Scenic Spots.

White Horse Mountain, which stretches from north to south, resembles a galloping white horse when viewed against the white clouds, hence its name. The mountain is not particularly high or steep, and at our age back then, it only took about half an hour to reach the summit.

Immortal Ascension Cave, also called Immortal Cave, is said to be where, in some long-forgotten dynasty, a hermit achieved enlightenment and ascended to immortality within the cave—thus earning the names Immortal Ascension Cave or Immortal Cave. Even as late as the 1950s and 1960s, it remained a popular site for worship. There are also legends that the cave is unfathomably deep, with underground rivers that may connect all the way to Zheshan and Siheshan mountains in Wuhu City. It is said that a man who sold fried dough sticks once ventured into the cave and never returned.
