Wuhu Martyrs' Cemetery

Wuhu Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Hall of Wuhu City Martyrs' Cemetery is located within Shenshan Park. It was originally built in 1953 and renovated in 2005, with a total construction area of 1,500 m² and a usable area of 1,200 m². The hall is divided into five exhibition rooms, each with an area of 240 m². It is part of the third batch of key provincial-level protected martyrs' memorial buildings. In 1995 and 2001, it was twice designated as an "Anhui Provincial Patriotic Education Base" by the provincial Party committee and government.

The hall uses a combination of text and images, along with modern high-tech methods, to comprehensively showcase major historical events that took place in the Wuhu region from the Xinhai Revolution to the founding of the People's Republic of China over the past century, as well as key figures who influenced and advanced historical change in the area. It highlights the over 100-year history of the patriotic revolutionary struggle of the people of Wuhu, emphasizing the glorious journey of the people of Wuhu under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party in overthrowing reactionary rule, resisting Japanese imperialist aggression, defeating the Kuomintang regime, defending world peace, and safeguarding the achievements of socialist construction.

The memorial hall is divided into five exhibition rooms:

The Preface Hall serves as a microcosm and introduction to the entire exhibition. It features a large sculpture of revolutionary martyrs, quotes from three generations of Chinese leaders about the martyrs, and condensed scenes depicting the history of Wuhu’s opening as a trading port, Sun Yat-sen’s inspection visit to Wuhu, and the support provided by the people of Wuhu to the Northern Expeditionary Army.

The First Exhibition Room (Period of the Great Revolution) displays the activities of a large number of early activists of the Party, such as Xiao Chunu, Yun Daiying, Wang Jiaxiang, Wang Buwen, Li Weinong, and Yu Changzhun, as well as the Anhui Provincial Temporary Committee of the CCP and the Wuhu Special Branch, from the outbreak of the May Fourth Movement on May 4, 1919, to the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party.

The Second Exhibition Room (Period of the War of Resistance Against Japan) mainly showcases the historical facts of the people of Wuhu resisting Japanese aggression under the leadership of the Party after the Japanese invasion of Wuhu in December 1937. It highlights the heroic battles fought by the New Fourth Army in the Wuhu region and recreates the wartime scenes of the “Guandoumen Victory,” the “Fuziling Battle,” the “Mayiyuan Battle,” and the “Fanchang Defense Battle.” It emphasizes the deeds of martyrs such as Wang Daohong and Zhong Hankui who sacrificed their lives during this period, and presents the tragic yet heroic history of patriotic General Dai Anlan fighting on the China-Myanmar border.

The Third Exhibition Room (Period of the Liberation War) primarily displays the activities of the underground Party organization in Wuhu and the Party’s armed forces stationed in southern Anhui along both sides of the Yangtze River before and after the Crossing of the Yangtze River Campaign. It focuses on the main efforts of the underground Party organization in Wuhu to welcome the crossing of the People’s Liberation Army, organize support for the front lines, gather intelligence, and protect important urban facilities. It also highlights the heroic deeds of the “First Boat Across the Yangtze” and the main events of the Wanzi Battle.

The Fourth Exhibition Room (Period of New China’s Construction) mainly showcases the deeds of martyrs who sacrificed their lives to defend the new political power during the early years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, including anti-bandit campaigns, anti-spy operations, land reform, and production recovery under the leadership of the new government. It reflects the heroic struggles of the people of Wuhu in the Korean War, highlighting the deeds of first-class combat hero Li Jiafa and second-class combat hero Bi Wubin. It also presents the heroic acts of martyrs such as Zhang Yingnan and Chen Xiaoduo, who gave their lives to save drowning children during the period of socialist construction.
