Jiuji Ancient Town Scenic Area

The Jiuji Ancient Town Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Jiuji Scenic Area is located in the city center of Wuhu, covering an area of 310,000 square meters. It consists of three parts: Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, Jiuji Square, and Mirror Lake Park. Among them, Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street is among the first batch of national “Streets for Reassuring Shopping,” “China’s Top Ten Famous Commercial Streets,” and “Twenty National Advanced Demonstration Streets”; Jiuji Square is recognized as a national and provincial “Property Management Demonstration Square” and a “National Characteristic Cultural Square.”

“Jiuji” is the symbol of Wuhu City in Anhui Province. In ancient times, the area of Wuhu was low-lying and a shallow lake overgrown with “aquatic weeds,” abundant in fish and teeming with turtledoves, hence the name “Jiuji.”

Jiuji Ancient Town is located on Jingwei Second Road in Wuhu City. It features a traditional Huizhou-style architectural complex. The ancient town stretches 1,200 meters from north to south and 500 meters from east to west, divided into eastern and western sections by the Biantan River. The western side is a static area, mainly consisting of academies, guildhalls, and former residences of notable figures. Notable sites include the Chaozhou Guildhall, Huizhou Guildhall, and Hunan Guildhall, which highlight merchant guild culture; the Yu Residence, Wu Mingxi Mansion, Zhang Residence, and Wang Residence showcase the culture of historic residences; while the Li Shulan Hall, Tongde Hall, Xiang Family Bank, and Liuchun Garden recreate a rich variety of traditional businesses. The eastern side is a dynamic area, featuring boutique hotels, specialty snacks, interactive experiences, inns, and leisure bars.
