About a hundred steps from the pond stand two of Jiuhua Mountain’s oldest ancient trees, over two thousand years old—one is a maple tree, the other an elm. Their crowns are massive, requiring three or four people to encircle them, and they are lush with branches and leaves. By the Crescent Pond, there is a stone stele erected by a monk, inscribed with two poems.

Cross the exquisite stone bridge and descend down a narrow path for over 50 meters to reach the Panshi Rock.

Introduction

Crescent Pond was dug and maintained by Monk Kongyou for storing medicinal herbs and firewood. It was intended for people to enjoy and to inspire future generations to continue the effort of beautifying the landscape. A few elegant lotus stems stand gracefully above the pond’s surface, distinctive and extraordinary. In the pond, the "Floating Turtle" carries a stone pagoda on its back, while by the pond’s edge the "Rhino Gazing at the Moon" lies horizontally.
