Huangshixi Famous Tea

Huangshixi Famous Tea is grown in Huangshi Village, Lingyang Town, Qingyang County, situated on the mountainside of Jiuhua Mountain, a famous Buddhist destination. The region boasts deep, fertile soil, a mild climate, ample rainfall, and a long frost-free season (210–240 days), along with frequent fog in spring and summer and significant rainfall in autumn—creating perfect natural conditions for tea growth. The tea produced here is highly regarded for its excellent color, aroma, taste, and appearance. In 1915, it won the Gold Medal at the Panama International Exposition of Food Products. Since then, Huangshixi tea has been exported to international markets such as Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as major Chinese cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hefei. Since 1958, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has purchased 500 kilograms annually as “gift tea” for hosting foreign guests. Starting in 1990, the Administrative Office of the State Council has ordered 25 kilograms each year for use in important meetings. In recent years, the tea has been further developed into a series of premium products, including “Dao Seng Tian Yun,” “Tian Tai Yun Rui,” “Tian Tai Cui Jian,” and “Huangshi Qi Qiang.”

Huangshixi tea is known for its rich, pure, and long-lasting fragrance, mellow liquor with endless aftertaste, and high medicinal value. Regular consumption refreshes the mind, invigorates the spirit, and offers unique anti-cancer properties. The tea leaves are uniform, tightly rolled, and fine, with a tender greenish-yellow hue and visible white pekoe. The brewed tea has a clear, jade-green color, soft leaf bottoms, and a thick mist that rises when first poured. It delivers a fresh, rich flavor, a high and refreshing aroma, and a sweet aftertaste. Even after five or six infusions, the aroma remains. The tea absorbs the nourishment of high-altitude fog and dew daily and draws the essence of rare flowers and plants, resulting in tightly rolled, uniformly fine leaves with a tender greenish-yellow color, covered in white pekoe, bright jade-green liquor, a sweet and refreshing aftertaste, and tender, even leaf bottoms. Due to the high-mountain climate with significant day-night temperature variation, and the remote location with very few residents within a hundred miles, the tea gardens are free from pests and diseases, as well as from pesticide and industrial pollution—making it a natural, organic, and eco-friendly tea garden.

As early as 1915, “Huangshi Mao Feng” won the Gold Medal at the Panama International Exposition. Since 1958, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has purchased 500 kilograms of the tea annually as “gift tea” for entertaining foreign guests, and the State Council’s logistics department also used it for important conferences. Today, Huangshixi Famous Tea is exported to countries and regions including Japan, West Germany, Hong Kong, and Macau. In recent years, the local town government and agricultural technology departments have collaborated extensively to develop a range of premium teas based on Huangshixi Famous Tea, such as “Tian Tai Yun Rui,” “Tian Tai Cui Jian,” “Huangshi Zu Qiang,” and “Dao Seng Tian Yun.” Among them, “Dao Seng Tian Yun,” one of the Huangshixi teas, received unanimous praise from experts during its provincial evaluation in 1992 and was included in the national “Spark Program.” In the same year, it won a Silver Award at the Hong Kong World Food Expo. In 1993, it earned a Gold Award at the Changde National Spark Program Achievements Exhibition and Trade Fair, and was awarded Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by the Provincial Science and Technology Commission.
