Rehmannia Root of Earth Treasury
When the monk who founded the Buddhist site on Jiuhua Mountain in Qingyang was alive, he usually ate wild rehmannia root as food and passed away at the age of 110. His body remains incorrupt to this day — for 374 years. Recently, Master Daxing from Shuangxi Temple in Zhubei at the back of Jiuhua Mountain also had the habit of regularly consuming rehmannia root. He lived to be 91 years old, and his body did not decay, which amazed the world. In China’s medical classics such as the “Shenxian Zhi Cao Jing” (Classic of Divine Herbal Plants) and the “Compendium of Materia Medica,” it is recorded: “Rehmannia root broadens the middle [energetic] and benefits qi, harmonizes the five internal organs, enriches the muscles, strengthens the bone marrow, prevents aging for many years, turns white hair black again, and causes fallen teeth to regrow…” The flat-leaf, ginger-shaped rehmannia root that grows under the geographical and climatic nourishment of the Jiuhua Mountain Range is of the highest quality. It is rich in various essential trace elements for the human body, as well as protein, starch, amino acids, digitalis, and other components. It has effects such as nourishing kidney, lowering blood pressure, preventing arteriosclerosis, and promoting insulin activity. As a result, for thousands of years, “Rehmannia Root of Earth Treasury” has enjoyed a long-standing reputation. Commonly referred to by the people: “In the north there is Changbai ginseng, in the south there is Rehmannia Root of Earth Treasury.” The Yong’an Tourism Food Factory in Qingyang County (formerly the Lingyang Food Factory) follows traditional folk production techniques, combines over ten years of processing experience, and uses scientifically sound formulas to professionally produce the Siyuan brand “Rehmannia Root of Earth Treasury” product series. These products feature reasonable variety matching, cleanliness and hygiene, convenience for consumption, unique characteristics, and retain both the traditional flavor of rehmannia root and the natural wild essence of the plant. Integrating traditional culture with natural ecology, they have become the most representative specialty treasures of the Qingyang Jiuhua Mountain area.
Methods of Consumption:
1. Ready to eat upon opening; enjoy as a leisure snack with tea.
2. Soak in warm water, rinse clean, and cook with pork knuckle, young chicken, eel, fish, etc., to make medicinal cuisine.
3. Directly brew as tea or soak in liquor for drinking to enhance physical health.
Application Examples:
(1) Leukopenia: Use rehmannia root, wash it clean, add water to decoct, remove residue, add sugar to make a 100% syrup (among cases, 11 showed effect, 18 were effective, 11 were ineffective, total effectiveness rate 72.5%). In most cases, leukocytes began to increase after two weeks of medication. For those with drug-induced leukopenia, the treatment shows significant efficacy without stopping the original medication. A few cases experienced slight abdominal distension after taking the medicine, which can be eliminated by taking it after meals.
