Shengman Nunnery

This character “鬘” (mán) is rather unique. It is said that the daughter of King Prasenajit of India, empowered by the Buddha, preached the *Śrīmālādevī Siṃhanāda Sūtra* (abbreviated as the *Lion’s Roar Sutra*), expounding the Mahayana Buddhist doctrines of “the One Vehicle as Ultimate Truth” and “Tathāgatagarbha as the Dharma Body.” The name “Shengman” (Victorious Garland) originates from this sutra. This nunnery is a key temple in Anhui Province, located to the west of Zhongminyuan, also known as Anleytang. The hall faces west and is built along an east-west axis, with a wooden frame and walls made of small stone blocks. In front lies a vast tea plantation, while the courtyard includes vegetable patches and a greenhouse, offering a serene, tranquil, and beautifully scenic environment.
