Keqiao Archway

The Keqiao Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Keqiao Archway is located in Ke Village, a natural village in Jiuhua Township, Qingyang County, within the Jiuhua Mountain Scenic Area in Chizhou City, Anhui Province, China.

The Keqiao Archway was built in the eighth year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1529) in honor of the scholar-official Ke Qiao. Ke Qiao (1497–1550), courtesy name Qianzhi and art name Shuanghua, was a native of Ke Village. He passed the imperial examination in 1529 and was a disciple of two renowned Neo-Confucian scholars, Wang Yangming and Zhan Ruoshui. He held various official positions including Historiographer, Court Lecturer, Investigating Censor of Huguang, and Advisor of the Fujian Provincial Administration Commission. He also served as Deputy Surveillance Commissioner of Fujian, where he strengthened coastal defenses and fought against Japanese pirates, leaving a notable legacy in history.

Ke Village: Located at the northern foot of Shaowei Peak in the southwestern part of Qingyang County, Ke Village lies at the main northern entrance of the Jiuhua Mountain National Scenic Area. It serves as the administrative center of Jiuhua Mountain, a transportation hub, and a tourism logistics and service base. It is also the site of the under-construction Ke Village New District.

Covering a total area of 7.56 square kilometers, Ke Village borders Ersheng Village to the south, Laotian Village to the west, and Yonghua Village to the north. The area has a dense population, with the main part of the large village situated in a flat, bustling urban district.
