The Qianpaifang Stone Memorial Archway is located on Qianpaifang Street, facing east-west and standing right along the street. It was built during the Zhengde and Jiajing reigns of the Ming Dynasty. This is a white marble memorial archway in the style of a four-pillared, three-bayed structure. Only the stone pillars of the central bay remain, standing 4.45 meters high. The eastern side’s drum-shaped stone stands 2.1 meters tall, with a maximum width of 0.8 meters and a thickness of 0.17 meters. The north and south side bays are largely well-preserved. The architrave features a variety of carving techniques including high relief, low relief, and openwork, depicting patterns such as ruyi (scepter), swirls, lotus petals, auspicious beasts, flowers and plants, diamonds, triangles, and cloud motifs. The design layout balances solid and void elements, complexity and simplicity, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. This archway was formerly known as the “Dashitu Archway” and was built by Qian Rujing (a native of Tongcheng), who served as the Minister of Justice during the Ming Jiajing era.
