Guangsi Hall

Guangsi Hall is a protected cultural heritage site of Anqing City.

Guangsi Hall is located within the Xiong-Fan Two Martyrs Memorial Shrine on Yanjiang East Road in Anqing, Anhui. Built in the 16th year of the Shunzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1659), it is part of the overall Ciyun Pavilion complex and is the most distinctive among the city’s ancient buildings, remaining largely well-preserved.

The hall is 11.6 meters high, 16.3 meters wide across five bays, and has a total depth of 14 meters. It faces south and is built with a timber and brick structure, featuring a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof—a classic example of ancient Chinese architecture. The main hall has an exposed roof truss system, with neatly arranged ceiling tiles. The column bases are 0.5 meters high, and both the front and rear corridors are 3 meters deep, with the central bay between the corridors measuring 8.2 meters in depth. The front corridor features arched brick doorways at the gable ends, connecting to auxiliary structures on the sides of the hall to form a cohesive whole. The upper ends of the six front columns are fitted with carved wooden inverted lions that act as diagonal braces, each about 1.2 meters long. The corner column bases are elevated 0.15 meters higher than those of the four middle columns inside the hall. The upper eave of the hall supports the purlin with a nine-tier bracket set, while the column-top bracket arms support short columns, with brackets interlaced through the columns. A total of 36 bracket sets are installed across the four double-layered eaves. (Designated as a municipal-level key cultural relics protection unit in 1990)
