Yang Xiaowu Paleontological Fossil Site
The Yang Xiaowu Paleontological Fossil Site is located on the Jinxing Group in QiuZhi Village, Doumu Township, situated on a breast-shaped, east-west oriented hill. It stands approximately 20 meters above the surrounding farmland, with the surface predominantly covered by pine species. The site spans an area of 2,000 square meters. The fossil-bearing strata mainly consist of weathered limestone, with numerous fossil-bearing rocks exposed on the surface. In 1981, Professor Li Chuankui from the Chinese Academy of Sciences collected important fossil specimens of the "Dawn Mouse" from this site. Dating back to the middle to late Paleocene epoch, it is considered the earliest known ancestor of rodents in the world. The discovery of this fossil holds significant historical and scientific value, providing crucial insights into the prehistoric natural landscape, geological strata evolution, and biological development not only of the local area but also of the broader Qianshan region.
