Tomb of Martyr Yu Dahua

The Tomb of Martyr Yu Dahua is a cultural relic protection unit of Qianshan City.

The Tomb of Martyr Yu Dahua is situated on the Luopeng Mountain Ridge north of Tuoling Forest Farm in Guanzhuang Town, facing southwest from the northeast. The tomb mound is circular, standing 8.7 meters high with a base diameter of 6.5 meters, and covers an area of approximately 50 square meters. In front of the tomb stands a modern stone stele erected in January 1966 by the People’s Committee of Qianshan County, inscribed with the regular script “Martyrs’ Cemetery Everlasting Glory”; in November 1996, the Qianshan County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Government of Qianshan County renovated the tomb by building three levels of cement steps and embedding a tomb epitaph on the wall of the second-level step, inscribed in regular script with “Tomb of Martyr Yu Dahua”. The main text, consisting of approximately 270 characters, records the history of the tomb’s establishment as well as the deeds of the martyr. The tomb also houses the remains of 18 other martyrs, including Niu Jinshan, political commissar of the New Fourth Army.

On October 15, 1986, the Tomb of Martyr Yu Dahua was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Qianshan County.

Yu Dahua (1899–1927), also known as Youlong and Jianmin, was a native of Guanzhuang, Qianshan County. During his studies in Anqing, he became actively involved in the May Fourth Movement and the December 2nd Movement. In the spring of 1921, he participated in the preparatory work for the Anqing Socialist Youth League; in July 1925, he went to Tokyo, Japan, to study and returned hastily to Qianshan the following year to establish the Qianshan County Kuomintang branch, where he served as an executive committee member. He joined the Communist Party of China in October 1927 and became secretary of the Qianshan County Special Branch of the CPC in November. He actively implemented the spirit of the Party’s August 7th Meeting. Just as he was preparing to launch an armed uprising for the revolution, he was unfortunately arrested by the reactionary Kuomintang forces on December 6 and was martyred heroically in Meicheng, Qianshan on December 8.

Guanzhuang Town: Located at the northeastern corner of Qianshan County, Guanzhuang Town sits at the junction of four counties—Tongcheng, Yuexi, Qianshan, and Shucheng. It borders Hefei to the north, Chaohu to the east, Anqing to the south, and Wuhan to the west. It is 80 kilometers from Anqing Airport and Anqing’s passenger and freight terminal, and only 60 kilometers from the Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway and the Beijing-Kowloon Railway. The town covers a total area of 187 square kilometers, governs 20 administrative villages, 355 villager groups, 8,535 households, and has a population of over 32,800. Roads connect it externally to Shucheng and Tongcheng, and all villages are interconnected internally. Main roads are paved with asphalt, providing relatively convenient transportation.
