Former Site of the Shih River District Farmers' Association

The Former Site of the Shih River District Farmers' Association is located in Tiewa Group, Matan Village, Shuihou Town. Originally built as the ancestral hall of the Wang family around the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, it now serves as a venue for descendants of the Taiyuan Clan Wang family to conduct ancestral worship and rituals. Historically, it was one of the well-known “red” meeting halls: in 1930, under the leadership of Chinese Communist Party members Mei Zhusong and Hu Shaoyuan, the Qianshan Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army and the Shih River District “Farmers’ Association” planned the “Meizhai Uprising” here; from 1936 to 1942, progressive individuals advocating “resistance against Japan and national salvation” and “patriotism and love for the people” ran the “Qianshan Normal School” and “Southeast Middle School” here in the form of training institutes to cultivate patriotic talent. During this period, parts of the building were modified to meet the needs of changing times, but in 1997, the Wang clan carried out renovations to restore the building to its original appearance.
