The Lin Clan Ancestral Hall in Tianzhu

The Lin Clan Ancestral Hall in Tianzhu is a cultural heritage site protected by Anhui Province.

Located in Shengli Group, Tianzhu Village, Shuihou Town, the Lin Clan Ancestral Hall was originally built in 1924 during the Republic of China era. It was renovated between 2005 and 2007 through joint funding by descendants of the two Lin branches, “Shide Hall” and “Jiumu Hall.”

The eaves, beams, railings, column bases, and dragon wells inside the ancestral hall showcase exquisitely crafted wood and stone carvings. Their ingenious designs are deeply influenced by the ancient architectural culture of the Ming and Qing dynasties, vividly reflecting the mature carving artistry of Huizhou-style architecture.

The front hall of the ancestral hall includes a fully wooden, pavilion-style theater structure, flanked by auxiliary stages and wing rooms. The second hall serves as the “Jiumu Hall” chamber, used for worship and prayer ceremonies. A courtyard is situated between the front and rear sections. Three “Gothic-style” windows can be found in the west-side wing room—they were modified when the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army held meetings here.

The entire building follows a two-courtyard design, with an axis oriented 5 degrees southwest. It has a total width of 25.6 meters and depth of 21 meters, covering a floor area of 540 square meters. The gable-and-hip walls feature four rows of double-tiered horse-head walls, with a post-and-lintel wooden frame, white walls, and gray tiles.

Shuihou Town: Shuihou Town is located in the western part of Qianshan, covering a total area of 83 square kilometers. The town center is 23 kilometers from the county seat, 84 kilometers from Anqing City, and 30 kilometers from Yuexi County. Adjacent to the national scenic area of Tianzhu Mountain, the town boasts complex and varied terrain with significant elevation differences, unique mountain landscapes, dynamic river systems, and culturally rich historical sites such as temples, pavilions, and mountain strongholds. The permanent resident population in the town area is around 3,000.
