Tomb of Xu Yaoxin

The Tomb of Xu Yaoxin is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Tomb of Xu Yaoxin is located on an earthen mound to the right of the house at No. 43 in the Qinglou Group, Jinshi Village, Yujing Town. The tomb faces from southeast to northwest and is a joint burial site for a couple. The mound has a remaining height of about 1 meter and covers an area of approximately 30 square meters. In front of the tomb stands a stele erected in the year Xinyou of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1711) by imperial scholars, government students, and local scholars. The stele is 1.23 meters high, 0.68 meters wide, and 0.11 meters thick. The inscribed face of the stele bears the text “Tomb of Xu Bin Yue, the Great Cloud Marquis and Imperial Jinshi of the Ming Dynasty, and his wife, Madam Ding, Honored with an Imperial Title.”

Xu Yaoxin (1545–1620) passed the imperial examination and became a Jinshi (advanced scholar) in the Bingxu Year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty at the age of 42. He successively served as Prefect of Yongzhou, Hengzhou, and Jingzhou, as well as Surveillance Commissioner of Guangzhou and Provincial Administration Commissioner of Guangzhou. During his time in office, he “rectified malpractices and relieved the people’s burdens, earning widespread respect near and far.” After his death, his clansmen enshrined him in the ancestral temple.
