The Ancestral Hall of the Fifth Branch of the Yu Family

The Ancestral Hall of the Fifth Branch of the Yu Family is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

Yu Wenzhang, the sixteenth-generation ancestor of the Yu family who migrated to Qian, was the tenth-generation descendant of Yu Yanjian, who once served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Xuanwei Office in Yunnan during the Ming Dynasty. In the fifty-seventh year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1792 AD), Yu Wenzhang built this ancestral hall, known as the Ancestral Hall of the Fifth Branch. Because the ancestral hall of their exiled ancestor, Jian Gong (the sixth generation), was located nearby and directly opposite on the side, the family temple of the Fifth Branch did not bear the titles “Ancestral Hall” or “Branch Ancestral Hall.” Therefore, the sign at the entrance reads “Yu Family Ancestral Hall.” Originally, a six-foot-high decorative wall was erected in front of the main gate to shield it (this wall was removed after the liberation).

Protected area: East to the small river, south to residential houses, west to Guan Shu Road.
