The Liberation of Yijiangshan Islands Memorial Hall is located in the city center of Jiaojiang. The memorial hall has two floors of exhibition space. The exhibits mainly include historical charts, photographs, and ship and aircraft models, along with multimedia presentations that demonstrate the process of the first joint operation by China’s army, navy, and air force to liberate Yijiangshan Islands.

Historical Background: January 18, 1955,

To strike a blow against the arrogance of the enemy forces and fulfill the determination to liberate the southeastern coastal islands of Zhejiang, the East China Military Region of the People’s Liberation Army launched the Yijiangshan Islands landing operation under the command of General Zhang Aiping. The operation involved one infantry division, 137 various types of vessels, and 22 aviation squadrons. The entire landing operation lasted 10 hours, resulting in the deaths of 519 enemy troops, the capture of 567, the sinking of three warships, and the damaging of four others. After the liberation of Yijiangshan Islands, the enemy forces stationed on the Dachen Islands lost their outer defenses. Under the cover of U.S. military forces, they evacuated nearly 20,000 local residents to Taiwan.

Although the scale of the Yijiangshan Islands landing operation was not large, its impact was profound. It marked the first joint operation by China’s army, navy, and air force against enemy forces on a nearby island, gaining invaluable experience in coordinated landing operations and firing the first victory shot for the complete liberation of the coastal islands of Zhejiang.

also known as Two Dragon Mountains. Legend has it that the Ming Dynasty anti-pirate general Qi Jiguang once trained his naval forces here. The two islands are separated by a 150-meter-wide channel, with the northern

island covering an area of 0.88 square kilometers and the southern island 0.35 square kilometers, with the highest point at an elevation of 130 meters. There are no permanent residents on the islands, but there are dozens of simple sheds used as seasonal dwellings by fishermen from the mainland.
