Taizhou Museum

The Taizhou Museum covers a construction area of nearly 12,500 square meters and a total exhibition space of approximately 6,000 square meters. The first floor is for temporary exhibitions; the second and third floors host permanent exhibitions, featuring “Mountain & Sea Spirits — The Historical and Cultural Exhibition of Taizhou” and “Earthly Sentiment — The Folk Custom Exhibition of Taizhou from the Perspective of Cultural Geography”; the fourth floor features thematic exhibitions of folk collections.

Located “between mountains and sea,” Taizhou’s mountain spirit and ocean soul form the two pillars of its people's spiritual world, giving the city not only a resilient character but also cultural and geographical features that embrace valleys, water towns, and coastal areas. The museum’s two core exhibitions start from Taizhou’s mountain and sea characteristics, using storytelling to help visitors fully understand this land.

“Mountain & Sea Spirits — The Historical and Cultural Exhibition of Taizhou” traces the complete historical timeline of Taizhou from prehistoric times to the modern era. Through this timeline, visitors can explore the city’s administrative evolution, economic development, learn about notable historical figures, witness key historical events, and gain a deeper understanding of their hometown and Taizhou itself.

“Earthly Sentiment — The Folk Custom Exhibition of Taizhou from the Perspective of Cultural Geography” adopts Wang Shixing’s theory of cultural geography, interpreting the living conditions and folk customs of the people in Taizhou’s mountainous, plain, and coastal regions through the interconnections of ecology, livelihood, and lifestyle. It paints a vibrant picture of the diverse and richly blended cultures of mountain dwellers, water town residents, and coastal inhabitants.

Embark on a historical journey, discover the beauty of Taizhou, and reawaken your hometown sentiment — all here at the Taizhou Museum.
