Destination Introduction The Snow Mountain Cultural Ruins are a Neolithic cultural site, located on the southern side of the road from Changping County to Nankou, in Snow Mountain Village. This site was discovered in 1958 and excavation began in 1962. The ruins are distributed on a plateau southeast of Snow Mountain, with higher terrain in the northwest and lower in the southeast. The entire site covers an area of one square kilometer, and can be divided into three periods: the early cultural ruins share similarities with the Yangshao Culture of the Central Plains and the Hongshan Culture of the northeast, dating back 6,000 years, with pottery mainly consisting of red pottery; the middle period belongs to the Longshan Culture category, already in the late stage of primitive society, dating back 5,000 years, with a tree-ring calibrated age of about 5,500 years. The social nature of the first and second phases of the Snow Mountain Cultural Ruins' cultural layers belongs to the primitive society stage, equivalent to the transition period from matrilineal clan society to patrilineal clan society. In the late period of the Snow Mountain Culture, it resembles the Lower Xiajiadian Culture and cultural sites of the Shang Dynasty in the Central Plains, dating back about 4,000 years.
