On April 16, on the high mountains on the north shore west of the reservoir dam in Ming Tombs Town, Changping, a "hiker" in his 50s who was out for a spring hike suffered a fractured ankle after a misstep while climbing and became trapped on the mountain, unable to move. After a 90-minute emergency rescue, firefighters from Yong’an Squadron of Changping Fire Brigade carried the injured hiker down from the 600-meter-high mountaintop along a rugged mountain path. The injured person was then transported to the hospital for treatment by emergency personnel from 999.
At 12:15 that day, Yong’an Squadron of Changping Fire Brigade received an additional dispatch order from the 119 Command Center and quickly deployed one command vehicle, one water tanker, one demolition vehicle, and 12 firefighters to the scene for the rescue mission. After a 29-minute drive, the firefighters arrived at the site.
The uphill path was a rugged mountain trail with a steep 60-degree slope, lined with thorny shrubs and brambles, and rocks occasionally rolled down. After more than 30 minutes of arduous climbing, the firefighters, together with a 999 medical worker, reached the injured hiker who was trapped at the mountaintop.
After providing basic first aid and bandaging to the injured person, the firefighters used a stretcher they carried to escort the hiker down the mountain. When navigating the 60-degree slope, the firefighters leaned directly against the incline, holding the stretcher overhead, while another firefighter at the base of the slope took over the stretcher, creating a safe and reliable relay. When passing through the narrow path between two trees, the firefighters adopted a zigzag route—four firefighters carried the stretcher from either end, while several others crouched beneath it to support the base, successfully making their way through the tight space like ants moving their home. At 14:08, the Yong’an firefighters safely delivered the injured person to the foot of the mountain.
