Destination Introduction

Dayangshan Forest Park is located in Xingshou Town, northeastern Changping District on the outskirts of Beijing, covering a total area of 8,000 mu. The park features massive granite structures as its main geological component, with an elevation of 861 meters and an annual rainfall of 600–800 millimeters. Midway up the mountain lies a giant rock over 200 meters long, known as the “Ten Thousand People Building,” which resembles a majestic dragon raising its head. The area boasts steep terrain, lush forests, a serene and elegant atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and a pleasant climate. It truly can be said: “Of all the waters and mountains on the outskirts of Beijing, Dayangshan’s beauty stands alone.” It is hailed as an “earthly paradise north of the capital.”

The park’s unique natural conditions are ideal for the growth of wild plants, endowing it with rich natural wealth and naturally forming a forest park. The forest coverage rate exceeds 90%, with flowers blooming in three seasons and evergreen foliage year-round. There are hundreds of species of ancient and famous trees, such as white bark pines, Chinese pines, ancient cypresses, and weeping willows. In the spring, peach blossoms and azaleas compete in a riot of color across the mountains, filling the air with a gentle fragrance carried by the spring breeze. In the peak summer, Dayangshan offers a coolness akin to autumn. During the golden autumn season, a variety of fruits are available for visitors to pick, especially the world-renowned chestnuts and walnuts, which are local specialties. The mountains are also covered with wild vegetables such as wood sorrel sprouts, wild leeks, Chinese toon, river celery, wild daylilies, and mushrooms. Most enticing of all is the bracken growing at the mountaintop, 861 meters above sea level. Visitors can also easily pick wild walnuts and kiwifruit, while over a hundred types of rare Chinese herbal medicines such as polygonum cuspidatum are seldom seen elsewhere. When you come here, you not only enjoy the beauty of nature but also experience rural life, all of which creates endless charm that makes you want to stay forever.

Due to the vast mountainous area and abundant water and grass, the park is suitable for the survival of various wild animals. Common sightings include roe deer, wild goats, foxes, badgers, gazelles, pheasants, and wild rabbits, naturally forming a wildlife zoo.

The natural attractions of Dayangshan are spectacular, and many legends have been passed down through the ages, such as Chessboard Rock, Black Dragon Pool, Lark Cave, Parrot Dove Cave, Horse Paw Spring, Azure Dragon Stream, and Two Dragons Bridge. These are complemented by numerous cultural relics and historic sites, including eight ruins of ancient temples from the Liao Dynasty and over ten surviving ancient pagodas. Even more magical is the presence of an ancient well and sacred springs on the mountain—Shentower Spring and Longevity Spring—whose waters are crystal clear, sweet to the taste, and flow year-round. As you stroll toward Longtan Valley and ascend the winding stone path, you’ll feel as if you’re walking along a secluded path into tranquility. Rare lacquer tree forests, seldom seen in northern China, grow along the roadside. At the mountainside, Black Dragon Pool is crystal clear with waterfalls cascading down. In the eighth year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign, the emperor personally inscribed the words “Moist Governance is Virtue” at the Dragon Pool. It is said that during droughts, people came here to pray for rain, and their wishes were granted. The welcoming pines here seem to wave and greet you at all times.

The scenic area is 45 kilometers from the Asian Games Village and is adjacent to many other attractions, making travel very convenient.

Bus: Take bus 949 from Mudanyuan and get off at Xiazhuang Station, then take a taxi for about 20 minutes to reach the park.

Private Vehicle: From Madian Bridge, take the Badaling Expressway, exit at Changping Development Zone, then follow Huai Chang Road past Xingshou Town, continue eastward to Taoyukou, and turn north to arrive.

Xingshou Town: A township under the jurisdiction of Changping County. Established as the Xingshou People's Commune in 1958, it became Xingshou Township in 1983. Located in the eastern part of the county, it is 15 kilometers from the county seat, covering an area of 35.4 square kilometers with a population of 13,000. The Beijing-Miyun Water Diversion Canal passes through the area. The Shatong Railway, Changhuaibei Highway, Maixin Highway, Liuxing Highway, and Tangqin Highway also run through it. The township administers nine village committees: Taolin, Qincheng, Xingshou, Xiangtun, Dongzhuang, Shatuo, Xinzhuang, Xiaocun, and Xiangfang.
