The Ming Tombs Imperial Wax Museum (abbreviated as the Ming Palace) is located on the northwest side of Xiguan Roundabout in Changping District. It sits at the intersection of the Beijing-Changping Expressway leading to Badaling and the Ming Tombs, and is a large-scale, Sino-foreign joint venture tourism enterprise integrating sightseeing, shopping, dining, accommodation, and leisure. It is a uniquely distinctive “Beijing Youth Education Base” and “Changping County Primary and Secondary School Moral Education Base.”

Based in Changping and supported by the Ming Tombs, the Beijing Ming Palace enjoys the reputation of “the Underground Ming Tombs, the Aboveground Ming Palace.” The main exhibition hall uses world-class wax art to trace the life stories of the 16 emperors of the Ming Dynasty. With 374 lifelike and vivid wax figures and 26 antique-style simulated scenes, complemented by modern film, sound, and lighting effects, it recreates 276 years of Ming Dynasty history, including politics, economy, culture, military affairs, court struggles, and social customs—hailed as the “Louvre of the East.”

The wax art at the Ming Palace is the result of years of dedicated research and experimentation by experts. Unlike Western wax art, which typically focuses solely on individual portraiture, the Ming Palace places its wax figures within historical story scenes, integrating them with drama, film, music, fine arts, architecture, and other art forms. This allows visitors to immerse themselves in a historical atmosphere while viewing the wax art, sparking awareness and reflection on history.

From Jishuitan, take bus 345 or 345 branch line to Changping Winery, then walk west to Xiguan Roundabout in Changping—just a 10-minute walk.
