Longquan celadon originated in the Southern Dynasties, flourished in the Song and Yuan dynasties, and the local Ge Kiln was one of the Five Great Kilns of the Southern Song Dynasty.

The Longquan Kiln is a historically renowned kiln with the longest firing period, the most widely distributed kiln sites, and the largest export reach. ——According to a cultural relics survey, over 350 kiln sites from various dynasties have now been discovered within Longquan.

The Dayao Ancient Kiln Site in Dayao Village, Xiaomei Town, Longquan City, is a national-level cultural heritage protection unit, while the Yuankou Ancient Kiln Site in the same city is a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Background: The Longquan Kiln was first established in the early Northern Song Dynasty and reached its peak in the late Southern Song Dynasty. It mainly produced daily-use items such as plates, bowls, and teapots, as well as jade- and bronze-imitation ceramics and sculptures. The products were finely crafted, commonly featuring carved patterns, with relatively thin glazes that exhibited a greenish-yellow hue.

By the Yuan Dynasty, the Longquan Kiln began to produce large vessels on a widespread basis, marking a significant technological breakthrough in ceramic production. After the mid-Ming Dynasty, due to the rise of the Jingdezhen ceramic industry, the Longquan Kiln gradually declined.
