Jinzhuyang Upper Village

Jinzhuyang Upper Village is a patriotic education base.

Jinzhuyang Upper Village is located in the southeastern part of Yongkang, under the jurisdiction of Fangyan Town, deep within the longitudinal expanse of the Dapan Mountain Range as it stretches from east to west. Due to its unique geographical location, Jinzhuyang holds an important place in the revolutionary history of Yongkang. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the First Column of the Advance Detachment of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, led by Special Commissioner Zhang Wenbi, entered Yongkang and joined forces with the remaining troops of the Third Regiment of the 13th Red Army of China’s Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. In the winter of 1935, with Jinzhuyang and Huangnongkeng at its center, the base area for guerrilla operations in eastern Zhejiang was established, along with the Eastern Zhejiang Special Committee of the Communist Party of China, exerting a profound influence on the revolutionary movements in Yongkang and surrounding areas. During the Liberation War, in response to the increasingly tense situation marked by the dark clouds of civil war following the victory in the War of Resistance, the Provisional Working Committee of the Communist Party of China in the Jinhua Region, under the leadership of Secretary Ying Fei, established revolutionary armed forces based in Jinzhuyang in the spring of 1946. They successfully repelled multiple suppression campaigns by the reactionary Kuomintang forces, steadily expanded their ranks, formed the Sixth Detachment of the Eastern Zhejiang People’s Liberation Army, and ultimately witnessed the liberation of Yongkang.

The broad masses of the revolutionary base area of Jinzhuyang made selfless contributions to the armed struggle led by the Party, truly living up to the title of “Red Fortress.” Veterans who once fought in the high mountains and dense forests of Jinzhuyang fondly referred to it as the “Jinggang Mountains of Yongkang.” To commemorate their predecessors and express gratitude, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the CPC Yongkang Municipal Committee erected a monument in Jinzhuyang Upper Village and designated it as a municipal patriotic education base. The village preserves well-preserved revolutionary heritage sites, including the former residence of Zhang Wenbi, a municipal-level cultural relics protection site in Yongkang. Zhang Wenbi (1910–2008), a native of Jishui County, Jiangxi Province, served as Commander of the Zhejiang Provincial Military District after the liberation and was awarded the rank of Major General in 1955.
