Changyuocheng is located in the western part of Changping District. It is surrounded by mountains on the east, west, and south sides, with Diaowogou to the south. It gets its name from being situated in the Changyu Valley. The village was established during the Ming Dynasty. Located in the Changyu Valley, it was originally called Changyu Kou. During the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty, a fortress was built here and named Changyu City. In the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, a new city was added on the foundation of the old one, and later developed into a village, which took its name from the city.

This city lies to the north against the Great Wall and faces Zhenbian City to the south, with Jiuyang City to the east. Its strategic location is extremely crucial, serving as an important pass in the defense of Beijing, the capital of the Ming Dynasty. Both the old city and the new city of Changyuocheng have city walls and arched gates. The old city contains Buddhist halls and the Goddess Temple, which houses a bell tower and a drum tower. The new city has one Guan Yu Temple and one Bodhisattva Temple. Most of these structures are well-preserved and are designated as county-level cultural heritage protection units.

The Changyuocheng Folk Village is located in the northwest of Liucun Town, Changping District, approximately 54 kilometers from the Changping satellite city. The village covers an area of 1,850 hectares. It boasts dense vegetation and fresh air, often referred to as Changping’s “Little Tibet.” The area experiences distinct seasons. In spring, the fragrance of flowers fills the air for miles, with peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and crabapple blossoms blooming in succession across the mountains, creating a vast and vibrant sea of color. In summer, the shade of crops blocks the sun, and the air is cool, with average temperatures more than 5°C lower than in the urban area. In the evenings, gentle mountain breezes bring a refreshing coolness, providing an escape from the summer heat. This is also the peak season for wild vegetables, making them a perfect, healthy wild delicacy. After a meal, enjoy a cup of Scutellaria tea, which aids digestion, clears heat, and cools the body, leaving you feeling very comfortable. Autumn is the harvest season, featuring locally unique corn that is sweet and delicious, never tiring to eat. You can also freely pick mountain grapes, hazelnuts, walnuts, hawthorn, and crabapples, adding fun and greatly enriching your experience. In winter, the land is covered in snow, with the snow on the southern mountains lasting until the following year, transforming the landscape into a breathtakingly beautiful white world that is both enchanting and uplifting.

The ancient sites and natural scenery of Changyuocheng Village are numerous and can inspire awe in every visitor. The ancient temple on the high platform to the west of the village has a history of several hundred years. The front hall is the Eighteen Arhats Hall, and the rear hall is the Three Goddesses Hall. The temple houses a large bell cast during the Ming Dynasty. When the bell rings, its sound is melodious, uplifting, and inspiring. In front of the temple, ancient trees tower overhead, remaining lush and vibrant despite having endured hundreds of years of wind and frost.
