Triathlon Venue

Known by World Triathlon as “the most nature-friendly triathlon venue in the world,” the Beijing Changping Triathlon Olympic Venue is located around the Shisanling Reservoir dam in Changping District. The natural swimming pool within Shisanling Reservoir sparkles, with verdant peaks rising overhead. The shaded running and cycling tracks are also situated in a natural oxygen-rich environment surrounded by greenery.

Unlike other Olympic venues or sites, this one is filled with traces of nature. The entire venue covers a total construction area of 11,767 square meters and mainly consists of five parts: First, the dam platform construction. After heightening and renovation, a 546-meter-long and 27-meter-wide platform was built at the upstream foot of the dam to serve as the race course and transition area; second, the dam slope grandstand construction. Temporary spectator seats, media stands, and VIP lounges were set up on the upstream slope of the dam; third, functional rooms and auxiliary facilities. More than 6,000 square meters of office space from Jiulong Amusement Park were requisitioned, along with some prefabricated and temporary structures, to be used for press conferences, logistics, security, and other auxiliary functions; fourth, the construction of the right embankment road of Dongsha River. A new 680-meter-long section of the right embankment road of Dongsha River was built to serve as part of the race course, keeping the total length within the requirements of World Triathlon; fifth, municipal utility infrastructure such as electricity and water supply.
