Laojia Art Museum

Located near Huoying in the northern suburbs of Beijing, west of Huilongguan, north of Pingxifu, and facing Lishuiqiao to the south, it officially opened on October 16, 1997. Covering an area of 3,500 square meters with a building area of 900 square meters, the museum was funded and built by painter Laojia. The mission of the art museum is to spread the seeds of art and create an artistic atmosphere. Its activities are centered around creation, exhibition, research, communication, and popularization, uniting both well-known and lesser-known painters and art enthusiasts in society to do what they can for the community.

Stepping into Laojia Art Museum, a vast expanse of lawn surrounded by natural rocks, birdsong, and floral scents immediately signals that this is a sanctuary of art. The large reliefs outside the museum and in front of the exhibition hall further exude a strong flavor of freehand brushwork. Moving further in, one passes through imposing stone pillars to reach the spacious and bright exhibition hall. The straightforward dividing lines, tall walls, and absence of decorative elements make the 300-square-meter space complement Laojia’s bold ink paintings perfectly, creating an indescribable blend of modernity and traditional Chinese aesthetics. As German art critic Fettina noted, Laojia is a painter deeply rooted in classical tradition—mastering traditional techniques while being distinctly contemporary. He knows how to depict power and motion, confrontation and stillness, joy and pain, threat and shock. Now, he has successfully infused his bold spirit into his art museum as well.
