Xiting

Xiting is located within Feiying Park in Huzhou. It was first built in the first month of the 16th year of the Tianjian era during the Liang Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties. Constructed by Liu Yun, who served twice as Prefect of Huzhou during the Tianjian period, the pavilion earned the name “Xiting” (West Pavilion) because it was built to the west of the prefectural office. Since it was built on a bridge, it is also known as the Water Pavilion. During the Dali era of the Tang Dynasty, Yan Zhenqing, then Prefect of Huzhou, wrote an essay titled “Record of Xiting” and erected a stele inside the pavilion. The essay describes Xiting as: “Encircled by distant peaks, floating above clear waters, embodying the wonder of the landscape, and truly enhancing the delight of leisurely outings.” These words vividly convey the beauty of Xiting over the stream.
