Shazhou Park

Located at the intersection of Jiyang Road and Park Road in the city center, bordering Dongheng River to the north, the park covers an area of 50,100 square meters, including 40,000 square meters of green space. It is a thoughtfully designed, uniquely laid out Jiangnan-style classical garden rich in historical and cultural heritage.

The park is thoughtfully arranged, featuring a memorial archway, relief carvings of the “Eight Scenic Views of Cangjiang,” a meandering artificial river, Fenghua Garden, two rockeries made of yellow stones, and a stone boat. The cabin of the stone boat is engraved with four golden characters reading “Jianzhen’s Eastern Voyage,” and inside the boat sits a bronze statue of the eminent Tang Dynasty monk Master Jianzhen.

A newly built miniature landscape of “Jiuzhaigou” winds through the park, with flowing water year-round and pleasant scenery. Particularly noteworthy is the preservation of famous ancient trees from the old garden area, along with over a hundred plant species, including ginkgo, eucommia, bischofia, wuzhen pine, white bark pine, golden larch, and ancient beech trees. On the east side of the park’s main entrance, there is also a 200-meter-long winding classical-style corridor.

Shazhou Park was expanded in July 1977 on the site of the former Shazhou County Martyrs' Cemetery. In 1991, the martyrs' cemetery was relocated, and the park was rebuilt in the architectural style of Suzhou gardens. It underwent another comprehensive renovation in 2001 and has been open to the public free of charge since October 1, 2001, becoming an open park.
