World’s highest and longest glass bridge completed at Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon

The glass bridge of Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon in Hunan, China, has recently finished installing its deck glass. The bridge stretches 430 meters in length and 3 meters in width, with its deck suspended approximately 300 meters above the valley floor, setting a world record for the longest and highest. It is also the world’s first large-scale bridge where glass serves as the main load-bearing structure, with a maximum capacity of 800 visitors.

The glass bridge at Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is the world’s first inclined-pull high-mountain glass bridge. Built using the latest aerospace composite materials, it spans the entire canyon from the mountaintops on both sides. At its center lies the world’s highest bungee jumping platform, attracting countless extreme sports enthusiasts.

The glass bridge was originally scheduled for a trial operation during China’s “May Day” holiday on May 1st, but construction progress was temporarily hindered due to snowfall and heavy rainfall. Currently, the main structure of the bridge has been completed, and the visitor center is in the final stages of interior decoration. As the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge employs innovative construction methods with no existing precedents for inspection and acceptance, relevant Chinese authorities are currently studying feasible testing and approval procedures. The bridge is expected to open to the public in July after ensuring its safety.
